Restore Existing Attic Coverage
Find out whether your existing insulation is a good candidate for a top-off. Get a Free Estimate
An attic insulation top-off is intended for homes where the existing insulation can remain but no longer provides consistent coverage. Over time, loose material can settle. Foot traffic and repair work can create shallow paths. Contractors working around wiring, HVAC equipment, plumbing, or roof penetrations may move insulation aside and never fully redistribute it. The result can be an attic with adequate material in one area and noticeably less in another.
Before recommending a top-off, we look at what is already there. Existing insulation should be reasonably dry, clean, and suitable to leave in place. We also look for accessible air leaks, blocked areas, attic access concerns, and sections where old material has been compressed or displaced. If the attic is a good candidate, additional material can be installed to improve continuity across the attic floor rather than removing everything and starting over.

The goal of a top-off is not simply to add bags of material. It is to create more consistent coverage while respecting the existing attic layout, equipment, access routes, and ventilation features. We assess the attic first so the new insulation supports the existing system instead of covering over a problem that should have been handled beforehand.
We check whether the material already in the attic appears suitable to remain. Severe moisture damage, contamination, widespread debris, or other significant problems can change the recommendation.
We look for shallow sections, exposed framing, paths created by previous work, and areas where insulation has been pushed away from the ceiling below.
Where practical, obvious gaps around penetrations and attic access points may be better addressed before additional insulation makes those areas harder to reach.
Attics may contain HVAC equipment, platforms, electrical components, and other items that must remain accessible. New insulation is planned around those conditions rather than simply burying everything.
| Service | Estimated Cost | Average |
|---|---|---|
| Small or limited-area top-off | Site-specific | Custom estimate |
| Typical accessible attic top-off | Based on attic area, existing depth, and material needed | Custom estimate |
| Top-off with preparatory air sealing | Based on sealing scope and insulation quantity | Custom estimate |
Top-off pricing depends on attic square footage, existing insulation condition, access, required preparation, and the amount of material needed. We provide project-specific estimates rather than publishing a number that may not fit your attic.

Adding material is only useful when the insulation already present is appropriate to keep. We inspect before recommending more.
Low paths and disturbed areas matter. We plan the installation around the attic rather than treating every square foot as identical.
If accessible sealing, cleanup, or other preparation should happen before the top-off, we explain that before new insulation is installed.
If your insulation looks thin or uneven, an assessment can show whether a top-off is the right next step.
Free — no obligations

We inspect the current insulation, visible weak areas, access conditions, and other factors that affect whether a top-off is appropriate.
We identify accessible sealing, minor redistribution, or other preparation that should be completed before adding material.
We add material across the agreed areas with the goal of creating consistent coverage while preserving necessary access and clearances.
We check the completed work, remove installation debris from the work path, and leave the attic access area orderly.
